Software Sisters Community Service Program:
As CS enthusiasts, we hope to create a community of sisterhood, especially through our community service projects. We will provide members of the Women in Computer Science club with several opportunities to give back to our local community.
Opportunities:
- Mentorship program
- The mentorship program will consist of a mentee and a mentor matched up to code a simple application through Replit or Snap. Members of our club will be mentors and the mentees will consist of middle school or elementary school students interested in coding. Mentors and mentees would be matched up based on their interests for the application.
- Career Panel
- Members earn volunteer hours by arranging a career panel and preparing questions. These help provide guidance on navigating the competitive world of CS. Our first career panel will take place with The Appalachian State University WICS club who has agreed.
- In person Workshops
- We are partnered with TechGirlz and plan on hosting in person workshops throughout the school year for middle school girls. The aim is to have 8-10 participants per workshop and focus on topics like Python Programming, Web Development, and more.
- STEM News
- With the STEM News section of our website, club members will have the opportunity to utilize their creativity to help support women in computer science. We will be posting articles and other types of media regarding computer science related information weekly to be accessible to anyone who needs the information. This will raise awareness to these topics and provide a resource to those who want to learn more about computer science but don’t have the opportunity to.
- Computers With Causes
- We will be raising money throughout the school year for Computers With Causes which donates different technological equipment such as computers and tablets for low income students in NC. We will put up flyers and use social media to fundraise.
